Breastfeeding Stories as Support

Strangely, I feel like I came across as kind of down on breastfeeding in my last two posts — on pumping and nursing while pregnant. Really, I love breastfeeding. I cry when I read other women’s stories of weaning sorrows. Last night, I decided I wanted to sleep next to my daughter as much as possible instead of sneaking away to freely toss and turn (and pee — pregnant bladder!). This time with just her and me is so fleeting and precious. I want to savor them before I find out what life is like with two and wonder if there really was life before that setup. (The other day I tried thinking about what life was like before my daughter. I couldn’t really get a sense of her not being there! It just felt like “yeah, that was just us, but she was off somewhere waiting or something.”)

It’s funny that I didn’t know it was World Breastfeeding Week till right before. I usually don’t figure these things out. I am grateful that I did find Nursing Freedom and Natural Parents Network (and Code Name: Mama). I have been through some hard moments lately and hadn’t fully recovered. Pushing myself to get these posts together every day and learn more about other people’s journeys has made me feel positive and confident. I am a changed mama, and so happy to be embracing the new territory I am entering….called my life!

STORIES and SUPPORT
Natural Parents Network has done so much to communicate about breastfeeding and support breastfeeding families. Read the stories below, some of which I have linked to already but many which I did not. Tell your own story, on this blog or by commenting on any of these posts or just by telling someone you know. Smile sweetly and supportively at a breastfeeding mother you see on the street. Be encouraging to a mother you know is breastfeeding or to yourself if you are a breastfeeding mother. Happy World Breastfeeding Week!
